Designer:
Terry Boling, Architect
Info:
Media Bridges Cincinnati is a non-profit organization that offers media education and training. The project consists of 8,000 s.f. located on two floors of a historic building in Over-the-Rhine. Administration and education occupy the third floor, editing suites are located on the first floor and new mezzanine, and a studio occupies the busy corner of the site, allowing the neighborhood to view the work of the facility. The character and quality of the existing building was carefully revealed and maintained while providing for a new layer of high-tech media equipment and infrastructure. The Master Control area, located prominently at the entry of the building, houses the technology that feeds the project through a series of exposed cable trays. A new mezzanine structure defines the editing suites and provides an access wall for connecting electric, data, and HVAC. The new architectural interventions make use of translucent, light emitting walls in contrast with the rough brick and exposed concrete of the building shell. Custom cast colored concrete work surfaces and furniture were built by the architect throughout the project.
Note: The Media Bridges Cincinnati project has recently won an honor award in the 6th annual AIA Cincinnati Design Awards program and is featured in an exhibition currently on display in Cincinnati. It also won a Special Recognition and Architecture award in 2002 from the Over-the-Rhine chamber of commerce
